AC "convenience" jack...where can I get one

Post by pula58 »

Been thinking of designing-in an AC convenience jack for my next build. I like 'em because I can plug my effects power supply into one if there is only one outlet for me (and I have forgotten an extension cord with multi outputs).

Where can I get one?

I thought that it would be easy to find one, but I was wrong.

I did manage to find just what you are looking for at McMaster-Carr. It is their part number 8036K5. A receptacle made to mount in a round chassis hole with two flanges for screws.

Sounds great, right? Well, the price is $19.77 each. So much for convenience!

There has to be a source for these things at a reasonable price somewhere.

I'm not a licensed electrician, so it's not obvious to me what could be wrong about using one of these: http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/LEVITO ... Pid=search comes in white, ivory, and brown! It does gobble up quite a bit of real estate.
This one appears to be more compact, but can't be sure: http://www.automationdirect.com/adc/Sho ... vices/5251

How about something like this?

I googled "chassis mount AC receptacle".

Mouser carries many different styles.

Check here for starters.

I have used example "H" with success in a number of my builds.

Hit the "Next" and "Previous" buttons for other examples that might work for you.

Type I looks like it kills two birds in one hole! It says snap in mount, solder tab! At the bottom, type E is only 70¢!

The round Fender style Amphenol outlet must have gone obsolete.
Mojo's price is steep and "currently unavailable".
I need (at least) one for a Fender rebuild.
