Quad bias for simulclass operation

Post by 9VOLT1967 »

I am trying to implement quad bias controls on my 100 watt heads. Is this the right approach to do this. I would like to simulclass by mixing tube types as well. KT88, EL34, or 6L6. This is my working schematic. Will this work like this?

You don't need four separate bias supply caps; just put your bias filter between the rectifier diode and the pots: one or two filter caps plus any dropping resistors needed. You should also add a 220K resistor from each pot wiper to the bias supply end of the pot to guard against loss of bias if the wiper opens. You may have to experiment to find the correct value for the load resistor. 5K6 might work depending on the supply voltage, but in some of mine I've had to go much larger to have enough negative voltage range.
