looking for an amp that has the following topology.

Post by wsaraceni »

gain stage - volume - gain stage - tone stack (tmb) - gain stage - PI

it seems most i can find have the volume and tone stack in the same location. TMB into volume control into next stage.

Add a gain stage after the tone stack in a plexi/4-hole Marshall and you have it.

the pi is usually already a gain stage and provides enough recovery for the tonestack usually.

otherwise a cathodyne usually has a coupled driver tube in front of it.

hiwatts use a driver stage into the dc coupled phase inverter.

thanks. i'll look into those. i was kinda thinking of something similar to the x10 schematic floating around here but with a full marshall style tonestack.
I'm sure it's been done. just trying to look to see if i can find one

Blonde Bassman (6G6B) in the bass channel sorta. They're very nice sounding amps BTW

Why don't you build the x10 with a mid control?

im trying not to build amps that i can just go and buy. so i try to make it a little different. the current amp i'm building is like an 18 watt z-wreck/rocket. so its not really any different than those amps. the next amp i'd like to start to move a little further away. i thought trying a x10 with a different tone stack might be a better solution. plus im not expecting this next build to sound great as it'll be in a gutted fender blues jr and i have decided i have to do it all with parts i have lying around. that includes using the blues jr transforers. i guess if the build is a success, i can always upgrade the transformers at a later date.

That's a Lee Jackson in the low gain mode without the effects loop.

That guy in the video is Kenny Rardin a local kat from Fargo-Moorhead played in some great local bands and worked at Marguerite's Music. He bought my original Clyde McCoy wah pedal many years ago. Moved away a while ago. It's fun to see his videos.
