I dont think they are easy to get anymore.andrew wrote:Has anyone hade any experience using a 6K11? I found a layout for a Soldano Hot-Mod where it adapts to a 9-pin. Thanks, Andrew
That circuit only really works with a JCM800 Master Volume model
Re: 6K11
It will actually work in any standard Marshall V2 stage (common cathode + cathode follower), but you really *need* a master volume with it!

Re: 6K11
i'm obviously missing something here.
why would you want to use a 12 pin tube, of limitied availability, when there are so many 9 pin choices available?

hi Pila, pila wrote:...Sounds like an old TV tube.
i'm not certain what other applications it was used for, but i know Ampeg used it in the V4 and V4b. of course, Ampeg has been know to use tubes other manufacturers passed over, like 12DW7 and 6C4 (SVT).
i struck out, a while back, looking for a source for a spare 6K11 for my V4b. thanks for the info on Antique Electronics.
cheers,

From what I've heard a 6C10 will sub for a 6K11, not that it's any easier to find. Phil
Re: 6K11
6U10 works as well. Sgt. overdrive said he has plenty of these 12-pinners, BTW.

Avoid them.
I tried a few preamps (for simplicity's sake), using the three section TV tubes. I thought it might be fun to make a very simple singled ended amp with a 6K11 and say an EL-34 or something cool. Not a good idea IMHO.
Usually they are noisy, don't sound good, and hum if you put a cathode follower in the same bottle as a couple of high gain voltage amps.
Not worth the effort. Leave them on the shelf so Ampeg owners can fix their amps in the future....
