SD60 build completed! Clip...
So I almost have everything I need to build a SD60. My only concern is that there seems to be three different versions of schematics. Which ones are to be trusted? Do I have to use the 560K's and the 500k pots? Can I just use 1M grid stoppers and 1M pots?
Any advice would be appreciated...

I have no advice about an SD60 but I am sure that your build will be a work of art.
What?

Beuhler???
Got the transformers, filter caps, sockets installed. I will start the heaters today.
Still have some time before I populate the the board...

Re: SD60 build completed! Clip...
I'm kinda in love with this amp. I think it's odd there isnt more chatter about it. I built one a while ago, but without the extra stage upfront, and no fx loop. It used to be an express and i didnt wanna drill out for more sockets...just wanted to get a feel for the basic circuit. It's like a dark plexi to me, but with its own voice. Something I keep meaning to do is switch all those 560k resistors and 500k pots to traditional values to see if that's what makes the amp so dark and warm. It certainly isn't those tiny cathode caps. I used the schematic that has the date on it. I read that the other one is brighter. If you run marshalls with the treble and pres cranked down you will dig this one. There are some good threads on freestompbox and cbass has a good thread here with a lot of good info

I built a 100watt superdrive in a marshall chassis and it is freaking badass.Im surprised there isnt more chatter about them too.
I messed around with 1meg and 500k pots.
I cant realy remeber what i have in there now a mix but 1meg will work fine.
I split the dual volume control into to seperate pots but iam planning on removing the high channel gain and replacing it with a fixed resistor.
I used 560k gridleaks i dont think there would be a huge difference if ypu used 1meg.
I bet they just had a surplus of 500k pots and 560k resistors when they built this thing.
The fx loop works great and the MV works fantastic.
I was really expecting a dirty amp only with this thing but it has a great clean sound if you turn the gain back and let that bright cap start working turn the MV up and its very clean and chimey sounding.
the low input is cool too sounds very plexi great for ac/dc and stuff like that
I think all the versions of the schematics are correct they are just revisions. There are some good pics on TGP and its a little diferent from all the schematics. I implemented something from all of them.I left out the bite switch. and put in a .22 bypass
Please dont show pics of your work.Your amp will make mine look like a big cobble fuck.

Couldn't look worse than that Torres 'splozion in the menudo factory' that went past last week. Ay caramba!cbass wrote:Please dont show pics of your work.Your amp will make mine look like a big cobble fuck.
down technical blind alleys . . .

It is burning in as I type. I ended up using a standard plexi type Presence circuit. I did not care for the Naylor one, it kept oscillating. I will make a clip later today. I used some JJKT88's for testing, but the end goal was to use a set of NOS Mesa Branded Sylvania 6L6GC's I have been saving. Haven't played with the preamp tubes yet.. It sounds awesome!
I used PEC pots, a 10 turn wirewound for the Bias aadjust, mainly leftover parts...
Enjoy...
