What Gibson amp is this?

Post by patrick620 »

After much research and no definitive results the best I can come up with is an EH-100. I could not find any that had this same tube line up but I read that they made several different versions most of which were not produced in large numbers. The tube line up is 6SJ7, 6J5, 6V6x2, 5Y3. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

EH100. There was a lot of variance from year to year within the same amp line.

Gibson did that a lot just to use up its tube stock and or try stuff out!
I have 1954 GA77 with a tube set up that this model was made with for some 3 months only out of its near year and a half production run!

Thanks for the replies. I am guessing that finding a schematic would be too much to hope for.

It doesn't look like it would be too difficult to draw one.

True. I changed out the electrolytics and it fired right up although the volume seems to be on 10 no matter what it's setting is. I will check the pot and it's wiring later today.

I dont have a guitar on hand today but it hums loudly when I touch the tip of the instrument chord with the pot UNhooked. I discovered this when I tried to jumper in another pot. Any thoughts? All I have changed is the e-caps so far.

Ya, I thought it was cool also. It was totally dead but I think I will keep it around for show.

I figured out that on this particular amp the volume control only affects the mic input and not the instrument inputs. Odd, but at least I now know that it is functioning as it was designed.

I was tempted to wire a friends amp with no volume control to force him to use the guitar controls. It took 8 months to get him to see the light. When ever he wanted to solo, he stomped on this terrible diode clipper pedal. I set his amp up for a good singing lead tone, then backed his guitar volume to about 7. Told him to just roll the volume up when he wanted to wail. He loved the tone, but couldn't get over the habit of stomping something to change the tone. Started using dirt boxes at an early age I guess. Now he just over uses the wah and delay. He sure can play though.

Build him a simple A/B switch box and let him set two channels on the amp. Then hide all the pedals. Took me 40 years to get around to doing it ...
