Matamp/Orange GT120 build

Post by Blindog »

After finding this website about a year ago:

http://hilbishdesign.bigcartel.com/

I decided to build one. The chassis look top notch, as well as the PC board. I have the board in hand, I'll have to wait a couple weeks on the chassis. Got a white one with a silk screened front plate.

From the pics on the site, it looks like he's using the Orange OR120 iron that Mercury Magnetics offers. I'd like to try them, but I don't have an account so I'm concerned about price. I'll ask if the site owner has a relationship and try to order through him.

Can't wait to get going!

Got the chassis delivered, and some Mercury iron with help from a forum member:)
Now to get some box caps ordered from Mouser and I can start populating the board.

Nice project I almost bought one myself but he was always out every time I looked.

Keep us in the loop on your build. I do need a Orange tolex cab for a Class D bass amp build (Orange look alike).

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I'll do my best to keep this thread updated as I go.

I do have a question I'm hoping y'all can help me with. They are calling for polystyrene caps for the filter on this build. I've found some in the values I need, but they are rated 50V. I should be OK since this control is after the coupling cap of the previous stage, no?

Many thanks,

Mark

Put some more work in on the Matamp GT 120 project. My wife had some unexpected surgery, so I've been otherwise occupied, but things are much better. I may need to mount a hoist above my bench to finish this beast!

It looks more like a neighborhood power substation than a guitar amplifier.
