I like this a lot. With telescoping pipes it would take up less room on the bench in use as well as when stowed.Andy Le Blanc wrote:all you need is 2 blocks of wood and some PVC

Built this a while back, expands as big or as small as I need it too, and removes completely from the bench when I need... Not wood but always good to keep your options open

Re: Amp Chassis Cradle
Lets face it, large tube amp chassis are awkward to handle due to the
uneven weight distribution caused by heavy transformers.
So bear in mind that the base should have a wide footprint to add stability.
Kudos if you can rotate the amp while clamped in, like a rotisserie.
I'm sure I am not alone when I say I have had some close calls of almost dumping it on the floor.

I broke my Radio Shack digital soldering station working on an Ampeg SVT six 6550 PA tube behemoth.
Re: Amp Chassis Cradle
Left over wood pieces from previous projects and maybe $10 in metal parts from Lowe's.

I built mine from 1 inch 80/20 material. Pretty flexible and stable.

In theory, theory is the same as practice. In practice it's different.

Re: Amp Chassis Cradle
Do you have a source online for this material? I like your cradle design. Restoring old amps makes for sometimes difficult ways of holding the chassis. Yours will work on any.JoeCon wrote:I built mine from 1 inch 80/20 material. Pretty flexible and stable.

Got mine from McMaster-Carr website. I think it's under structural framing stuff. They have short and long pieces if you have a way to cut it like a cut off saw. Also all the connectors too...

Re: Amp Chassis Cradle
Wow some of those are extra cool. Would even allow to work on your amp in zero gravity
I feel like Charlie Brown, all I got is some scraps of wood. Guess it's a step up, before that I used to use a few editions of the Pittman books, Weber book and RCA/GE tube manuals.
