4x6V6 output transformer

Hi,

I know this as been discussed before but i need a little more help on finding a suitable output transformer that can handle 410V on the plates of 4x6V6's.

I was looking into the Hammond 1760J but i don't believe it can handle such voltages.

The tubes are JJ's 6V6S that have a 500V max plate voltage and are 14 watt power.

I had a transformer custom made that shorted to ground after 30 mins of loud playing...

There is also the 1750N but i don't like the primary impedance wich should be around 4K.

Some advice please? I live in Europe so i prefer something i can buy here.

Like I said in the other thread of the same topic, a Dynaclone A-470 will handle all you ask of it and provide excellent bandwidth if you're willing to shell out the dough. 4.3k primary. Or check the Bay for a used, vintage piece. They're mostly sold in pairs though.

I have used 50 watt Marshall iron on several 4X6V6 amps and have never been disappointed with the final outcome.

Should be easy for you to source.

Mercury magnetics makes a clone of an old Jim Kelley 4x6V6 OT.
I think it's called the: JIMK-O

The amp I played it in was a Fargen Blackface style amplifier and I thought it sounded very good.

Likewise - I used a JTM45 (Raa = 3K4) 50W marshall OT with a quad of vintage 6V6G. VERY happy with the result.

Hi,

Ended up buying a very high quality 50 Watt / 4Kohm OT with M5 grain oriented laminations that Geoff from Matamp had.

I tested the transformer on the bench and all the impedances/winding ratios of the 4, 8 and 16ohm secondaries are spot on.

Excellent sounding transformer i should say.

btw... i have JJ's 6V6S with 422V on the plates. The JJ's are 500V max so i'm ok. Other manufacturers have much lower limits.

Anyone ever tried other brands of 6V6's with such high (or even higher) plate voltages with good results?
