Anyone Use The Panasonic Caps?

Post by wattsup »

I've seen amps using the dark brown Panasonic (I think) polyethylene caps instead of orange drops. Has anyone used them here and are they as good?

Polypropylene. Yup, I dig them. Here's an example:

Guys
I'm gonna try some of the Polyester ones next.

630V type.
In theory, theory is the same as practice. In practice it's different.

Used some 0.022 630V metallized polypro, they look and act much like the old Xicons, good caps.

Would there be a difference in tone between the polyester and polypropylene?

No, definitely.
All that matters is actual measured capacitance.

Now expen$ive cap$ snake oil vendors say the opposite ..... guess why ;)

Panasonics are good signal caps in general.

The panasonics and the polyester Xicons are nice caps. They sound nice and don't take up much room.

Yes. Definitely. But it's always the same debate, so it's ok.

Now, what would we talk about if a cap was just capacitance and a resistor was just resistance? What's next, an amp is just amplification?

I haven't tried the Panasonic caps but like the Xicon in my 100w Marshall build.

I used Panasonics in this most recent build. It isn't just like any other build that others or even myself has done so it's hard to say how they compare. Generally speaking in all my scaled down Wreck builds they sound really good and are easy to fit into almost any board configuration.

That's a very nice layout too RJ.

I agree. Not to derail the thread, but is that a PCB on top of the tube sockets? It looks like there are traces in the fiberglass.
