favourite 12" princeton reverb speaker

Post by arjepsen »

Hey.
I'm in the process of building a princeton reverb into an old solid state amp that I got. The 12" speaker in it doesn't sound that good, and for now I'm using a celestion 12-g65 that my brother gave me. I wonder what other peoples favourite 12" speaker is for the princeton reverb?

Regards
Anders

Eminence red fang, and you do not want to use a speaker rated at over 40 to 50 watts if can help it for that 20 watt amp!

Thanks for the replies so far.
Maybe I can be a bit more specific.
The main reason for using a 12" speaker with this amp, is that the cabinet is already made for a 12", and a 10" wouldn't fit.
So, I don't necessarily need a very effecient speaker - it doesn't have to be able to play that loud. I'll probably mainly play this amp right on the edge of breakup.

Why not? If you wanted speaker breakup as part of your tone, then ok, sure. I played a modified Princeton through an EV mounted in a 1x12 and it was magnificent. The stock 12" Eminence speaker sounded polite with some chime on its own, but utterly anemic compared with the EV.

I never like to run any amp with speakers that have a capacity of less than twice what the amp can put out. My 2x12 handles 200 watts. My Princeton uses a 100 watt JBL. I am very conservative that way.

Here's me playing my Jazzmaster through my PR clone with a Weber 12A125A (and DR spec OT) clean sound with a hint of the amp's reverb SM57 mic'd clean though my Focusrite Saffire. - This silky sound is why I like the 12A125A

Little late but for future reference, the WGS ET65 is an awesome Deluxe/Princeton Reverb speaker.

The fact that it is so inexpensive is the icing on the cake!

Just put an Eminence Josh Smith Signature (JS-1250) in mine and it is really good. 50 watt 12", $99 shipped. I had a Celestion Blue in there, which is nice as well.
