Quick filament virtual tap question

Post by mcshaner2k »

I'm working on a new build and replacing the transformer in a donor chassis. The heaters are wired with a virtual tap, my new transformer has a CT 6.3v filament.

Does it make a difference if I have both? Meaning can I CT to ground and keep the virtual tap 100ohm resistors in place?

So it's ok to tie off the CT?

I read somewhere a while back that the virtual tap can be more effective at reducing hum than a CT'd filament transformer.

I've been building my amps with virtual taps and they're all quite. I didn't realize this transformer had a CT filament when I ordered it. If it's ok to tie off the CT then it doesn't matter I suppose.

Thanks for the input!

Leave yourself the option of trying each one individually once the build is done, and see what's quieter. In my last build I found the real CT quieter than an artificial tap, but there really was barely a difference. I went with the real CT out of convenience.
