Dual phase inverter switching - Small pop

Post by Decko »

Hi Folks,

Finished building a power amp that has two phase inverters both with it's own Master Volumes and share the common output stage.

The idea is to use one PI at a time using a relay.

The implementation is successful however there is a small "pop" when the relay is engaged and moves from PI1 to PI2.

I realize that this implementation may be unorthodox but I am experimenting with overdriving PI's.

That said, any ideas on how one might filter out the "pop?"

Thanks,
Decko

You can often avoid switching pops with use of 1M resistor. Can we see a schematic?

Looks like a nice build in a tight space! Is it working well for you?

@xtian - Unfortunately, I did not have a chance to write up a schematic but will do so in the nearest. I used a two LTPI's with post phase master volumes. I then installed a relay that toggles between the leads of the wipers to the grids of the power tubes.

Tight space indeed! I used more point to point wiring the components to the PI's. Could you further exbound on the use of 1M resistors used to eliminate noise? Where in the circuit do you find those?

Usually the 1M goes across the switch. Not sure without seeing a schematic what you have going on though, so wait for someone much brighter than me before trying to implement that.

Thanks for chiming in folks.

I will draw up the schematic and submit in the nearest.
