New Solid State FX loop source - $20

Post by Gainzilla »

Hey all!

Full disclosure, I have a small affiliation with Jet City Amps. I'm. Or an employee, and don't get paid. I'm just a friend of the owner. We talk shit, have beers, talk sports... that's pretty much it.

Anyway, a few months ago he was telling me about how he has his Solid State loops built for his amps. Mojotone also sells these loops. Anyway, he already offers a ton of custom options through his web shop. I suggested he might want to think about making these available for direct purchase.

This weekend, he confirmed he would begin selling these loops directly through his sites for $20, on an ongoing basis. They aren't currently listed yet, and he said he doesn't currently have a ton, but plans on keeeping them in stock for the long term. You might reach out directly through his sites in the meantime.

Apologies again if this wasn't an appropriate post. Again, I have no direct benefit from the sale of this other than having access to a great, transparent loop for my builds for $20. Feel free to delete if this wasn't ok.

Cheers!

I bought one of these, and received it this weekend. Looks really well made.

Mine came with zero documentation, not even pin out info for the 5 pin connector. I've requested that from the vendor, and will post it when I get it.

I can't find these on the Mojotone site.

Do they run at full B+ or do you need a low-voltage power source?

I bought mine from Jet City Amps, as per the OP. I had to email them to buy the PCB.

As far as the power requirement, good question. No documentation.

What is that chip in the TO220 package? Looks like some kind of MOSFET... can you get a part number off it?

WTF. $70! For $20 it was a deal, at $70, not even close.

I took a chance at $19. Still waiting on some basic info on this board however. Vendor didn't respond today.

Yeah thanks I saw that one. Is it the same circuit? I assumed it was different. If it is the same, then yes it is powered by the main B+ supply which makes it even more attractive. But there is no way I'm paying Mojotone $70 for that one, even if there was no $20 alternative available.

Ah well it's no guarantee that it works off main B+ but the IRF830 is rated for up to 500V so that's a good sign!

There are schems out there for MOSFET buffer circuits. It should be relatively easy to trace the PCB and figure out how to use it. Effects loops are not very complicated.

You know that four of those pins have to be voltage, ground, input and output. Fifth line for a switch maybe?

Mojo uses LND150 for the MOSFET devices... So it is different.

Anyone have PCB making capability and need the traces for the Mojo? ...Lou?
