Does some kind of turret pin exist?
Hey guys,
I've always wanted to install turrets into the PCB of amps I frequently tinker with. The thought being that I can solder as much/often as I want to the turrets and not damage the traces or pads. Anyone seen or know of something?
Cheers!

I know it's only rock and roll, but I like it!

Most run-of-the-mill turrets ought to fit the bill.

Now, if you tell me how to set them without removing the board, I'll give you a dollar.

In the UK, Ampmaker sells turrets that bolt on:

Yes, that's a cool solution. Tapping method will probably work on fibreglass...UNOFFICIAL: Use a 2.3mm drill bit and you can self-tap these turrets into PTFE board material

Re: Does some kind of turret pin exist?
I dug through turrets before doing the Thomas Vox replacement PCBs. I thought I'd do the PCBs and put turrets on the edges so that repeated solder/unsolder wouldn't hurt, just like the OP. After running down turret pins and such, I realized that it wouldn't matter on new PCBs, because (1) the unreliability of the old PCB stock wasn't going to be an issue (2) the unreliability of the myriad of wires wasn't going to be an issue, and (3) the turret pins I could find took the same size holes as the wires would, about 0.050".
However, I did come up with a scheme for installing them that I think makes sense. Solder them in - but use a variety of solder with a higher melting point than 60-40 tin lead. The higher temp solder holding the turret pins in the PCB will stay unmelted while you work on the wire ends. Takes some experimentation, but ought to work.

Thanks all, some great ideas here! I did find some turret pins but until I get some feeler gauges to see what size I need, I won't know which ones to try.
Love the idea of higher melting point solder, tho. I'll definitely give that a try.

Not sure what kind they are. But I got them from C3.
