Hello,
Im wondering if anyone might be able to let me know if a classictone 50w Marshall 40-18023 power transformer could be used in a Komet style build? I have one I got in trade for a repair I did for a friend and would like to try something a little different than the typical jcm build.
Komet possible with classictone 40-18023?

the k60 has high voltages, around 480 or higher. and it may not sag as much as the 150ma marshall 50w iron

they're sort of express type amps so I'm sure you'll have no problem with that transformer from a technical point of view, might have different voltages from the original as mentioned but I'm sure it will sound great.
I'm about to build an Express/komet 60 HD (which is the SS rectified version) and I'm using an Express/AC30 mains transformer. MY friend has built quite a few express/Komet amps with various transformers/valve types and they've all sounded great regardless of what he's used.

728v CT and I'm sure it's 300ma

Sounds like the 40-18023 is a no go for a real komet build. Anyone have an idea other than the typical 50w marshall build I might use this transformer for?

There are quite a few options, there's the old Vox AC50 that used two EL34's that may be in the options list. Also, pretty much any preamp out there into them would work with a little tweaking. take a dumble of any sort and just use those instead of the 6L6's to see how that sounds. It may take a little tweaking to make sure you've got the right levels coming from the PI, but so far as I understand it, most preamp topologies would work fine into most power amps, you may just need to tweak slightly how much output is coming from the PI.
I still haven't done much experimenting with that myself yet, but one of my next projects is going to be cobbling together two Vox channels that didn't ever exist in an amp that I know of (ef86 normal and top boos). into the typical vox AC15 or 30 output and I'm possibly going to need to adapt that a bit as well.

I mostly use the 50w PT for JCM800 type buiilds pair of EL34's but I did build a Normster D'lite with that PT and matching OT.
