Soho5879

Post by arjepsen »

Hey.
I'm messing around with a plan for my next build.
I've been wanting to try out something like a Soho for a while, and have looked over the Hoso56 described over at el34world.com
I think I'll try to go for the 5879 but might make the preamp a little closer to the Soho.
I also want to use the 1974x poweramp that the Soho seems to be using, instead of the more voxish values used in the Hoso56.

Anyways, I was wondering about what OT to use?
So - what is YOUR favourite marshall 18watt iron??

Regards

The OT I used on a cook up like this was made by Ingo Georges in Germany. Sadly they are no longer in production, so this post is not of much use.

His OTs were supposed to be really close in materials and windings to the original RS ones.
There was quite a long wait and it arrived the night before I leant the "NOHO" amp to a friend to "test". I never really heard much of that OT because he kept the amp. I may have ordered another OT, but this is a while back and I my memory is fuzzy. I remember it was beautifully made, I mean the OT, not the amp.

Thanks, although too bad he doesn't make them anymore.
Any others have suggestions?
