One stop shopping?

Post by galtjunk »

Is there any place that carries most of what we need to build an amp?

In the past I used Mouser and Cedist to get most of what I needed.

Mouser doesn't have very many axial caps anymore.

Has anyone used the 27000 hour rated kemet caps?

I personally avoid tubedepot like the plague, I had an outstandingly horrid customer service incident there once, and never again.

I think often you have to use multiples. I like CEDist and Mouser.

As for axial caps, from all I've read most of us should just move to using radials, as they're more common, way cheaper, and the nicer brands work perfectly for audio. People can confirm or deny these as quality, but from what I've heard/read, Panasonic, Nichicon, and Kemet are a few of the higher end caps out there. (in the electrolyic range anyway). They're way smaller, and way less expensive than the radials, due to the higher demand for them. Basically you get the exact same performance and quality just in a slightly different form factor (and did I mention way cheaper?).

I shop all over the place: CEDist, Mojotone, Mouser, Digi-key, and E-bay.

I really, really like hoffmans site, but he also doesn't have everything, his focuses more on extremely commonly used components, or components used by his kits he's built up. I wish he held more, and I'd buy more often from him. I still do, but now that I'm building a lot more heavily, the cost of the other sites, and the broader selection means I go there more often than not.

Is the 27,000 hour rating on the Kemet 33uf 450v axial cap for real?
Mouser doesn't have stock but digikey does.
The price difference isn't much if you consider that rating.

AES is my go to but for the 3 watt 100k metal film plate resistors I use a lot.

I guess I got lucky, I ordered the 4 I needed for my Tweedle Dee Deluxe and they had enough, maybe I bought the last :P
