TWEED TWIN 5F8-A HIGH POWER

Post by DaveWell »

Hi !

I know the TWEED TWIN 5F8-A HIGH POWER is a good amp for guitar and bass
I'm looking for modification in the layout to make it MORE for a Bass/guitar
Gonna built it with only one input
and only the normal channel
I plan to use 4 x 6550 tube amp insted of the 6L6.

I need Help on this guy's !

Thanks !

I built a 3x12 one using a 60s bassman output transformer. It's a monster for sure. If I were you I'd use the tone stack http://www.duncanamps.com/tsc/download.html calculator from seymor duncan to allow you to dial in the frequencies you want since you are wanting to customize for bass.
a vacuum tube?! is that fire in there??

I'd lose the GZ34 and use the space to spread the 6550s farther apart. Pretty hot tubes. If you get them far enough apart, you might be able to use KT88s, too. For the 6550s especially, you should reduce the grid return resistors from 220K. I don't think you have go all the way down to the 50K the tube spec wants, but I've killed plenty of 6550s with too much grid circuit resistance.

Marshall used both 82K and 150K over the years. Try it yourself. You won't hear much difference. The tubes will be happier with lower resistance. KT88s seem less fussy about this, but that is only my experience.
