Build Contemplation

I am thinking about building a solid state preamp the basis for mine uses a pair of TY1243 transistors in it and I have been unable to locate any does anyone have a source or a substitute.

From the Vox showroom a site that does a lot of write ups on vox amps (Their 700 series amps used these)

"While introducing distortion, the diodes reduced the level of the signal to an unusable point. Vox designed a gain recovery circuit using two TY1243 transistors (TR3 and TR4) to increase the level of the fuzz tone to an acceptable level. Should you be servicing a 715, the TY1243 transistor is out of production and there is no known substitution."

What quality do these offer that a modern devices lack?
Tube junkie that aspires to become a tri-state bidirectional buss driver.
