That goop holding the laminations together is varnish. Usually the whole transformer assembly is dipped, and then baked to cure it. I was afraid you were gong to slip and gash yourself with your screwdriver. Glad it turned out ok ;^)

wouldn't be shocking, I"m pretty stupid that way I always find ways to injure myself. Did you see the solder iron slip into my finger on the tweedle dee series

Yow! That was interesting to see indeed. It's actually amazing to me that you got it apart, damn!
A friend of mine paid MM to rewind a BFVibroVerb OT. $200 I think. I am very sure they dipped it in a serious chemical to breakdown that lacquer first. Well, that was great to see and glad to see that you didn't hurt yourself. That would have been a bad deal.

Most people stall out when fixing a mistake that they've made. Why?

Wow, you were able to spin the screwdriver and nut driver in opposite directions at the same time! I've never tried that, but something tells me I am not coordinated enough to succeed...

hahah thanks both, yeah rooster, I'm debating trying to rewind it, I've got several stepper motors sitting around, an arduino, and motor drivers, I'm trying to think about a simple way to do it, but we'll see.
