How hot the PT suppose to be ?

Post by DaveWell »

Hi,
I built a 5F8-A with mercury Magnetic PT
After an hour of playing, the Pt kind of hot.
I can put my hand on it without burn
The 2 primary wire are black,
Swiching it may solve the issue or it's normal for a 100W ?
it's my first 100W build

Thanks !

Dave

If it's not too hot to touch after an hour or more, no problem.

I can't imagine that swapping the primaries would make any difference.

If this level of hot is with the amp out of its cabinet then you have , or will have issues in a certain amount of time, but can't say as dependant on useage it may take years !

How much heater voltage to you read, under 6.3?

Does the heater voltage drop off as the PT gets hot?

What is the amps V+ voltage in standby?

What is the V+ voltage in play mode?

If you pull out one of the output tubes how much does the heater voltage and the plate voltage change?

If I could I would get my hands on a thermal gun and see what it is you do have for temps!
