Swamp thing build

Post by Mungo Park »

Hello I am wanting to build the Swamp Thing:

http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~ehn/ax84/schemat ... oiler2.pdf

I wanted to use a 5Y3 Rectifier can anybody tell me the voltages at A,B,C,& D.

Thanks for any help.

Cheers Ron

That depends 100% on the power supply you're going to use, because without that data, you can't even guess. The power supply in this schematic doesn't list them, and shows diodes instead of a rectifier tube, but basically you'd need to decide on the power supply first and then you can get estimates of the power supply values at the nodes, but without tubes in, it's a wild guess anyway. I find it odd the schematic doesn't list a recommended power supply, but you could compare it to a typical champ and try to use a champ power supply that's got a bit of extra heater current handling to take the second triode and see what voltages that may run at.

Googling around a bit I see on the author’s site that that Amp is based on the AX84 High Octane. Here’s the schematic: http://ax84.rru.com/media/ax84_m161.pdf Expect the plate voltage to drop ~40V if you substitute a 5Y3 for the silicon rectifiers.
