Jet City JCA22 Attenuator Mod

Post by alpacino2368 »

Hello,
I am planning on adding an L-PAD based attenuator to the back of my Jet City JCA22 Combo amp, to make it a bit more bedroom friendly.

The schematic is a based primarily off this design: https://www.theguitarmagazine.com/diy/d ... ttenuator/
And the install is going to be similar to this process: https://www.instructables.com/id/Guitar-Amp-power-soak/

If you are unfamiliar with L-PADs, they are normally used in HIFI audio to reduce high end frequencies through heat dissipation. But whats cool about them is they keep the OHM Load consistent between the AMP and speaker, and if you get a high enough wattage L-PAD and are using a relatively low wattage amp you can use them as a power soak.

If anyone has experience with using an L-PAD in the way described above and has any experience with schematics, please verify if mine looks alright. Im pretty knowledgeable but no expert.

Thanks for the help guys!

You need to be aware that these things get really hot. Even though the L-Pad itself may be able to take 100W, things around it may not. I used a 100W L-Pad with a 30W amp once and the insulation to the connecting cables started melting. Eventually the solder started melting.

Ventilation for the L-Pad is essential, even if it's just a 20W amp.
