Visio---making striped wires?

Post by sluckey »

I like to use striped wires, mainly for PT center taps, in my layouts. But I think there's probably an easier method. Here's my method...

I use connectors for lines. I lay down a yellow line with the end points glued to the PT and a ground lug. Now I copy that yellow line and paste it on top of the first yellow line, change the color to red and make it a dashed line. And finally, put the dashed red line in front. Very easy and straight forward for a straight connector (wire). It's a bit more difficult when using right angle connectors such as on this layout...

… And it becomes tedious if I use curved connectors such as on this layout...

Getting the two curved connectors to align perfectly is very time consuming. And if I need to move the ground lug a bit, I have to realign the two connectors.

I feel there must be a better way to work with striped wires. Maybe a line property such as two color striped line, that works for a single line that can be moved at will just like a solid color line.

So, my question is "How do you guys work with striped wires?" I hope y'all have found a quick easy method... THX, Steve

I have been using Visio from its inception and I don't think there is any easier way than how you are doing it. I would not add the dashed lines till your drawing is completed to your satisfaction. Then add your dashed lines just one time when know it will not have to be moved/tweaked

Guys I found exactly what I was looking for. Just create a new line pattern. Schmidtfamily6 shows you exactly how to do that in this discussion...
