Edcor transformers.

Post by islandamp »

Has anyone tried the Edcor transformers? I am getting ready to purchase a set and wonder if anyone has any experience with them either good or bad. The discriptions sound good and the prices are great. Any other suggestions for a 50 watt Plexi style clone without breaking the budget?

island - I use one of their interstage transformers as a phase inverter in one of my designs. Their product has always been top notch for me. They are a small "mom and pop" outfit here in New Mexico. You can get all kinds of one on one attention from the guy and he is very decent to deal with.

Please post an update note when you have some results from the build, I'm curious myself about their other products.

My only complaint is that the heater current on the XPWR series seems a little light (mostly 4A). A plexi style amp with 2xEL34 and 3xECC83 uses 3.9A of heater current, a little close to spec for my druthers.

I asked them about that, and they said they could make me custom ones! As RJ mentioned, they seem very accommodating and easy to work with.

I got an extra 2 amps of heater current and a non stock voltage winding for an extra $20 engineering fee, so I,m going to give them a try.

Phil at Heyboer does quite a lot of these for people. He's always been great to deal with in my experience.

+1, although I don't know if he'd want to do a tear-down for a very small order.
