Guess who ended up with several hundred!

How did we conclude was the best method to break the tension? I think I am going with a fairly strong acid, rinse very well, then brush on thick flux and melt it.

I had a feeling when I was staking the board that they felt sandy and had the sheen of failure.

What's the coating on these: zinc-plated, instead of tin?

If that is, make a necklace with dozens of these on a copper wire and use that as an anode within a bath of HCl for a few hours, maybe?

Complete board needs spray on and rinse If I have to I can plate them but it's better to throw the board in the trash.

Yeah. I got those. Freakin' company said "you've had them 6 months and said nothing, so we can't help you."
Never mind I had bought 250 of them and it takes time to use that many.
I tried liquid flux to no avail. Even tried a wipe with muriatic acid. Some solder stuck, but it was miserable - they were all installed in a board like yours. I abandoned the board and looked at it a few weeks later - the acid had corroded the turrets.
Only have enough turrets from another supplier now for maybe 2 boards.

This is the reason I switched to eyelets. As I recall, I used a small file to break the surface, flat across the tops and sides. Used a Dremel on the sides too. It was a pain in the butt. Only one board like this, then eyelets from then on. I didn't use acid and the board is still functional to this day.

One of my staked boards is a BB red board from Metro that has to work for me. The other is generic black and in the trash.

All my eyelets are for boards less than 3mm. I ordered 3mm deep ones and only now noticed I have 300 2mm eyelets.

Yes, to try to save the board you’ve already made, I suggest to try a wire brush attachment on a dremel type tool on them.

I tried a couple things but polished with a brass brush or filed only makes them a little better and they are going to fail from corrosion at some point.

Corrosion will occur everywhere but where the solder is - due to the tin, as far as my understanding goes - so the connection may remain safe.

NB I have some paste to do tin coating with, so you should be able to find some too. Not sure if that would require heating a lot the turrets, though ...

EDIT : that paste only works with copper alloys ...

I considered replating them right on the board with nickle but it's a stupid pain. I cut all of them off the board and used some unplated brass ones in their place. The brass ones are better for under connections anyhow.

I tossed the other board in the dump. heh
