Old EVM12-L

Post by casey73 »

I bought a very old EVM12-L from a guy I worked with years ago. There is no decal on it but I've owned other EVM12-L in the past. It has a heat sink screwed to the back. The only marking on it is 936. The frame is painted black. Since it's a 200 watt speaker and I don't have any amp over 100 watts I think the heat sink is overkill. Anyone have an idea of how old it might be?

Yes, that's a code number of manufacturer.
It was made on the 36th week of 1979.

Thanks much for the info. I put the EV in a 1-12 cabinet I have.

They do look cool but they are a beast to haul around.

Yup!
It’s that big heavy magnet structure that gives then that tight punch that they are known for.

Might be a tad too tight for some Blues players who are looking for more low end flab and sustain out of a driver.

I have two identical 112 speaker cabinets . One is loaded with an old style heavy duty magnet , and the other has the newer flat back magnet. Crystal clear difference ; the old magnet will slap you silly . The newer one is still amazing and musical but a bit more air and give to the note. 2 cents fwiw
