2024 Monkeymatic Liverpool (nontraditional)

Post by xtian »

I had a chance to swap in an LND150 in place of 12AX7 first gain stage with no other mods in an existing build, and was happy with the results. So I'm going ahead with this Liverpool (nontraditional!) build, using LND150 as first gain stage, thereby eliminating one preamp tube.

Layout first. First draft. Will update here, as edits are made.

What is the two-tone brown thing on the Source?

50pF seems a little skinny for the treble capacitor.

Bypass cap, value to be determined at runtime.

That 50p value is on both the layout and the schematic, from the Dumble Files section...

Keep messing around....

50p is too big. 47p is awesome. Use Lemco dogbone. So smooth.

Ten Over, the LP has weird eq setup. That is also a 1M pot. It is the reason the mids are dipped 200hz below anything else.

(and defines every question about the mids)

Really, the tone relies on 2 picoFarads? Your ears are better than mine Miles.

I think of that tonestack as being a variant of the Gibson / Vox https://el34world.com/charts/Schematics ... nguard.pdf

I can hear the difference between 50 and 47.. but only because the types are vastly different.

I tried carbons all the way down to 22p and SM to I think 82p. Anything larger than the next smaller value sounds brash by any comparison.. anything lower than 47 just wrecks the mids. That 1M treble pot bothers me.

My Liverpool is rockin' blue Mallory and a Lemco.

Really excited to see how this works out. I've been thinking of something similar out of a similar distaste for unused triodes. Based on the other thread, I take it that the input cap is to protect the MOSFET from DC on the input?

Ah, I see. Probably been discussed to death, eh? Thanks.

It's more to protect against the LND150 shorting and sending 200+ volts to the guitarist. :)

Cool project! I have also been planning to do something similar with my stash of lnd150s, so far I have only used them in fx loops and reverb/tremolo.

I recently worked on a 5e6 with an early iteration of the FMV tone stack with 47pf treble cap, thread in the fender section. Apparently this is an old idea.

Updated layout in post #1. Trimmed some fat (empty space), aiming for a compact amp: 15"w x 6"d x 2.5"h

I swap an old carbide blade on the table saw to cut 0.080 aluminum. Works fine, but I lack a full face shield, and deflecting aluminum chips with my face is always refreshing...
