Pardon The Brain-Freeze,, but....

Post by zozoe »

I just picked up an old 60's Hilgen guitar amp, my 3rd one this month, and only one of the tone pot's taper is backwards🤔🤔
Do I simply reverse the connections to the outer lugs, leave the middle, and I'm in business?
YES, it's been a lonnng day~
Thnx, Kenny ॐ💃🪕

If I'm not mistaken, the taper is an intrinsic part of the resistive track of the pot. Reversing the lugs will reverse the direction you'll need to turn the pot to turn it up or down, but the taper will still not be correct.

If it's a linear pot, then yes. If it's a log taper, then the response->rotation will be wonky.

An easy way to test for a linear pot is to center it and measure the resistance from center to each end, it should be approximately equal.
