wire question

Post by dragonbat13 »

I just scored a big pile of 16 gauge stranded copper wire out of a compressor package that is being pulled from where I work. IN every color you could need. Is this too heavy of a wire to be using in anything other than heater wire in an amp? With the cost of wire I could save a bundle. I want to use it for my connections from the board to the tubes and pots and such.

thanks

EDIT I meant to post this in the discussion and not the files, sorry about that.

16 gauge is too bulky for general use in an amp.

Yes, I agree with tele, even on the mains 18 ga is plenty.
More important is the voltage rating on the insulation.
Most use 600v rated wire in 18 and 20 ga.

This thread does not belong in the "Files" section, but in the "Discussion" section.
Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...
