New, looking for a builder.

Post by Abstract »

Ok...where to begin?

I have 2 transformers. They are toroidal, and they were a gift from my father. I would like to use one or both on a 2xel84 Trainwreck-style amp.

The transformers were wound for a Soldano Astroverb that I never learned how to build.

So yeah...there's that, and I have a pretty tight budget. I don't need a cabinet, just a chassis right now.

I'm a fan of metal film resistors...and I'd like a PPIMV that completely removes itself from the circuit when the master is maxed. And I don't want a Presence control...(I'd like the PPIMV to occupy that spot).

Any takers? I'd REALLY appreciate it!

Or possibly, instead of a ppimv...a cascading gain stage or 4...

But I guess beggars can't be choosers?

What can I be flexible with to see this project completed?

Thanks.

TW amps don't do PPI master volumes. It won't work well at all. The presence cntrol applies negative feedback at the PI. You really do want one. You need a power transformer with 235-0-235 and about 150MA+ and an OT at about 8500-10500 ohms. You can't just use anything. You won't be happy and it's gonna cost you more to do it wrong than to do it right.

YMMV

OK...I'm over using Dad's trannys...and I guess I can live with out any options....or MV.....

A "regular" TW express is cool...

I do, however, still have a budget...

Can a willing builder PM me or respond here?

Edit: I'm in Northwest Arkansas...if at all possible, local would be preferred.
