Who made this amp?

Post by bentonar18 »

Can anyone tell me positively who made this one? I'm thinking it could be a Wards, an Airline, a Silvertone...not sure. There is a label in the back with a tube chart, and a very small word that says "Interstate", but no model number. Amp has a reverb and tremolo, and is 2 channel. Has 4 6L6 tubes...and yeah, it's loud! Construction inside reminds me of mid-60's stuff. Any ideas, guys?

It looks a lot like a Univox. But... the last amp I though looked a lot like a Univox turned out to be a West. So what do I know?!

Heh heh...the other guitar player in the first band I was in had one of those. Silvertone was what was written on his. Man, I'm going back to 1974 now when I was 16...sheesh!

The panel looks a lot like a Newcomb, I guy on ReRanch recently got one.

Does it have phono and mic inputs?

Reminds me of an old Wurlizer PA head.

Looks like a variant of the Silvertone amps I had as a kid- the power switch is exactly like the Silvertone's.

My guess is that it's made by the same people (Valco??)

Looks a lot like a Valco production to me too. Usually pretty good sounding amps.

Silvertone makes sense; it sort of has that look. Yes, it sounds pretty good; I just had it checked out. Reverb could be better, though; cables aren't shielded. Trem sounds good. Sort of the a poor man's Fender Twin, maybe? I'm getting ready to have a buddy list it on Fleebay but hate not to be accurate about stuff like that...

Think I can "legally" list it as Silvertone/Valco? Or just call it a Silvertone? you guys that had the Silvertones: know what model it is closest to? Guess I better go check out the Aspen Pittman's Tube Amp book, too; maybe it will have a schematic that is close.
