I don't know if this site had already been posted, but hey, one more time can't hurt. The most valuable part for me are all the calculators they have.

http://www.ampbooks.com

But they've also got some other really useful info on here as well.

Mod Edit: site layout change, bringing to main page

For your antiquated test gear.

Post by Satchmoeddie-II »

I am not sure if any of you use old Fluke, Sorensen Nobatron, Lambda, or other regulated DC power supplies, old HP distortion meters, antiquated O Scopes, or not, but I use them. I also have a few curve tracers, & other ancient test gear that is very suited to doing R&D, diagnostic work, & other stuff with tube amps. This guy has manuals & schematics for lots of old test gear. When my test gear stops working I do not stop, but it sure slows me down. BAMA has loads of test gear manuals & schematics. http://bama.edebris.com/manuals/

NEETS modules

Post by Jerryz1963 »

IF you are a serious noob to electronics, the US Navy NEETS modules were designed for the person who is studying on his own. They are very good. There is a chapter or 2 on tubes. They are FREE.

OR
http://www.hnsa.org/doc/neets/mod01.pdf

Max Robinson's Fun with Tubes is really good. He makes things very easy to understand and his site is very comprehensive. He's on the Angel Fire website. He also has solid state.

And those old radio shack books are really good for absolute noobs. Forrest Mims. Although downloading them may violate copyright laws, I'm not sure.

Some of the links in the older posts in this stick are dead. I've noted those and provided new links if I can find them.
Andy Le Blanc wrote:Very good..... I'm nearly done with work this week, I should be able to get on it tomorrow Am.
I'm also very sure there are many links common to forum participants, so please jump in.

It seems also that a couple three very basic projects that can be achieved
with a soldering iron, multimeter, a calculator, and a hand full of parts,
should find a place too. Simple and CHEAP, I know there are many who
have gone with kits very successfully, but you have to consider those who really want to,
but for who even the investment of $100 would be a significant
barrier. It seems we're back to the 40's.

Here's a few links off the bat.

I know Merlin's site was mentioned but his two hardback books which are for more intermediate and advanced learning are great books and cover a lot of ground.
I think even beginners can glean something from them as well.

You can even read the first chapters online.

Thanks all for listing all these links!
Here's one that I learned a lot from: http://www.normankoren.com/Audio/TENA.html
While it's a HiFi amp and quite an ambitious project, some of the stuff can, obviously, be applied to guitar amps as well. Lots of elegant ways of regulating B+, Bias supplies and even a IC controlled Bias servo for the output tubes.
TENA = The Emperor's New Amplifier, as in: the Emperors new clothes...
The name implies transparency...
Best regards,
Tom
It sounded so sweet... And then it caught fire!
