Defective Resistor

Post by David Root »

Anyone run into this before? One lead just fell off the resistor body, I found it in the bag like this. It was attached a few days ago. Looks like it simply failed to attach properly during the manufacturing process. This is USA product too.

Call the vendor and complain. I'll bet they'll send you some replacements pronto!

I'm going to send the pic to them. I like these metal film resistors and I never had any problems at all with them until this. I have been using them for about 4 years.

I agree that it's defective, but...hey, it's a resistor. How much did it cost? Maybe pulling one of the good ones out of the bag as you watch this would help?

What brand is the resistor?

Looks like a spot weld that failed.

PRP. I looked at it with my wife's big magnifying glass and it looks like something rectangular got in between the two surfaces and spoiled the spot weld.

I sent the pic to PRP but no-one contacted me so far. It's not a big deal, no-one expects these parts to be made in a clean room, but I'd never run into it before.

shit happens i've had it happen don't judge the quality until you contact the company or the distributor and give them a chance to resolve the issue they try hard to have quality control but duds do slip by if the product is worth half a shit they will bend over backward to make you happy.

Yep I've had that happen with CC before. One time it was a marginal 100k plate resistor that (until it fell apart when I was taking it out) I didn't know for sure was causing this horrid staticky shite. (But when I replaced it with a good one, the problem was fixed.)

I've found the PRPs to be really robust, since they have larger diameter leads than most.

Very odd.

Great sounding resistors, by the way.
