I always try to get my drummer to drum like this now. It's a lot harder than it looks. You have to respect that he keeps a solid rhythm while dancing a fool. I love the robot thing he does later on.

Yep, this one's pretty popular. I play drums and can assure everyone that it's pretty dang hard to do that stuff. He's WAY over the top, but still manages to be more solid than a lot of drummers. And just plain fun to watch. I think "Wipe Out" is a hokey tune but that band does an AWESOME version that obviously took a lot of practice.

Whaaa?? Gene was your great uncle? My very first jazz record was "The Essential Gene Krupa". Gene was one dapper mofo and amazing showman! I'm not a historian, but I always thought of him as the first drummer to truly entertain on his instrument. Back when heads were calfskin and drummers held their sticks like real men. Rich, Bellson and Shaughnessy all owe him. I'll bet he was quite the party animal and had the gals swoonin'.

Not like this jerk....... 8) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWuudewX ... re=related

Life is a drum solo - interesting how the bass and guitar players try to ignore him...

It's mad isn't it? I followed the link that jborders5 put on the 'add another one to the list' thread, and there it was on the side, At first I laughed, then just watched in silent amazement...

His timing is fantastic, I would pay to see it live, even though the other guys aren't in on the act somehow..or maybe that's the point?

I'd never heard of Gene,but I'm glad I have now...thanks Steve!!!

I remember seeing that guy years ago in a video.
Pretty comical.

So Krupa was Steve's great uncle?

How cool is that?

For those that don't know, Steve is also a drummer, besides a hell of an amp builder and guitarist. :D

I can remember seeing Buddy Rich on all the variety shows.

Apparently he was a real A hole to work for.

Don't let that smoke out!

Wow!
I've always said that Gene was one of my favorite musicians of all time.
every time he got behind the kit it was like a celebration of the instrument, the music, and life itself. And isn't that how it should be!?
