The only thing harder than watching them decline over the years is when you finally have to make the decision you've just made.
Sorry man, I know how you feel!

As Eric said, I understand the loss.
That was a lot of time together.

Three years ago we lost a 15 year old, blind and deaf Lab to kidney failure.
It is a terrible balancing act deciding when to make that call.
You did right.

My heart goes out to you, Tom and to the rest of you.

ADusty was an amazing, brilliant runt kitty that was with us for 20 years. I can't imagine that there has ever been a cat with more attitude. She had an incredible, full life- she traveled with me, she killed lots of stuff, she made animals of every size get off of her turf. I learned a lot about life from her.

When it came to be time for her to go a few years ago, it seemed like it would be cruel to extend the worst part of her life with lots of vet visits, etc., to get maybe a couple more weeks of low quality existence out of her. So we had her put to sleep. I'll say that I miss her every day and would have loved to have more good days with her, but I will always be at peace with how we handled the timing of her departure.

Sorry to hear Tom. After nearly 10 years we had to say goodbye to our first born Mia in March. She was a hell of a dog and this was easily the toughest decision I've ever had to make in my life. Made one more Express for myself just before she left us, aptly named "Mia"...

That's a good looking head on that dog.

Thanks, that is an awesome tribute to Mia, Bruce.

Yeah, I just don't get it.
Why do dogs only live a dozen years or so.

The giant breeds only get to 8-10 years. I couldn't bear that.

It really helps to have the other canines here.
They know.
