More than a another Great One, not sure if Elvis would have gotten all the attention he got without that brilliantly subtle but red hot guitar work. Go man go. RIP

2016 continues as a year of very high attrition among more mature artists.
A great loss to the guitar community-he showed the way to a lot of us.

True, but there's one hell of a shindig going on in heaven this year.

Sorry to hear that. Last year when I was in a rockabilly Elvis music only group, I gained an appreciation of Scotty's chops while trying to learn the songs.
I certainly didn't do them any justice, but I had fun trying.

RIP, Scotty!

Headline article on the NY Times obit page today gave good coverage and honored him very well. It also said he didn't make much money with Elvis and that he left his guitar in the case for 25 years after he and Elvis split.

NPR just replayed an interview with Scotty from 2006. It can be streamed from their website. Elvis never phoned him after the split. Scott wasn't one of the Elvis "handlers" and was shuffled away.

I had the privilege of playing with Scotty (and DJ Fontana) when we made the Sun records tribute album a few years ago, he was a true gentleman in every sense of the word.
