Thanks for all your work, Phil!
One change that I’m not keen on is the ‘new posts’ quicklink; instead of displaying all threads in order of most recent posting, it now seems to limit them things to posts made since the user’s last visit.

I actually would see that as well on the old forum when I did some forms of 'cleaning the cache' etc. I think it builds up over time but just got reset on the latest update, but I might be wrong.

I'm actually still seeing some behavior I'm not super fond of.

New Posts is supposed to show posts you've not read since your last visit... it used to show a lot more, but maybe that was broken.

BUT

sometimes when I come in, I have missing posts that ARE in 'unread posts' but not in 'new posts'

maybe because I logged in to approve a new user or something, and then didn't actually read those posts, then came back later and 'new posts' contains only what happened since then, but unread posts contains ALL unread posts.

At any rate, I'm not a big fan of the new 'new posts' setup, and it doesn't seem changeable. :(

Phil, thanks for bringing up that point...

I'll use the "Unread Posts' as well.

Not sure if this is a result of the site update, but the links on this page no longer work.

http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16

Pretty sure I looked at these links recently and they were fine.

Same with these ones

I don't know if that's a software update, or if it's something the hosting provider decided to do to 'improve their services' I'm looking into it.

It seems more like a 'permissions' issue with the web service not phpbb. But I'm not 100% sure yet.

chopsauce he means the links on the pages he's linked don't work. It's some kind of permissions issue. If a file is an 'attachment'
and visible to the phpbb layer, it works, but if it's just a file on the server and it's directly linked, it throws a 403 error. I can confirm those files exist and are on the server, the server is just blocking direct links.

I've opened a support ticket with phpbb but so far every one I see, they basically say "don't know it works for me, must be your hosting provider" and they never seem to resolve most issues.

I got a response. They said it's for security. They made it so that normal files can't be directly linked... in other words they just broke old functionality w/o any known means to fix it.

I'll have to research if there's any way around it, I'm asking if there is a workaround.

Someone else came back with a:

It should never have worked "wow it did... gee thanks for that"
To fix it, do this...

I did that, it seems to have fixed it.

Oh well... they'll continue to be smarter than me as usual and talk down to me about how what I and others experience is nothing to be expected and we're basically just dumb.

love that forum.
