On top of the need for Carnets for every country now when touring and the PRS deciding that to do a live stream from my kitchen I have to pay £57 license to broadcast , musicians are getting royaly shafted by our government. Boris rejected the no Carnet free travel of musicians in the Brexit deal....i mean why? what good is this new situation for any of us?
How soon should people on the east coast of the US expect to start encountering English musicians washing ashore on rafts?

Pics of a tiger not eating someone, 👍

That'd mark the sixth or seventh British Invasion.

So this Carnet is like an economic visa where you have to pay to do a gig in another country?

it's basically a list of EVERY piece of equipment with serial numbers you're traveling with into each country and it's purpose is really for import /export control so people aren't buying/selling. However this means you have to STOP at every customs border and in Europe you can cross borders from France into Belgium into Holland into Germany on one day!!! and have your papers(carnet) stamped, if they want they can ask you to open up your truck and pick a random piece of equipment and ask to see it on the form with the correct serial number. Of course this now means paperwork and extra expense along with all the inconvenience as well, so there's no upside at all.... :(

I spoke to a promoter today who is pulling all their small European gigs for the later part of this year because of this as it's no longer financially viable.

So a little payback for escaping the collective it seems. Condolences, it's hard enough trying to make a living in the arts as it is.

Would it be possible to create or contract with an existing EU company whose purpose would be to own and transport all the instruments and equipment needed, so that the UK musicians would only need to travel with their own personal effects?

sure you could hire locally in every country but that adds quite a daily expense if you're just a small band doing club gigs and profits are tight anyway on top of the whole 'rental' amps thing every night :( ... you sometimes get lucky.....mostly NOT..... :)

exactly, our European brothers and sisters weren't happy about us leaving, and I quite understand why. I'll never forget on the evening of the Brexit vote in the UK, all the major European cities projected the Union jack flag onto the prominent building in their capitol city as a sign of togetherness, it was amazing to see that.......made no difference unfortunately.
