Bruno designed Voxes- what are they?
I see Vox is trying something new with Tony Bruno's help:
http://www.voxamps.com/us/tb35c/
They talk about these Bruno designed amps as sounding "american". I wonder if they mean simply because of the 6V6s.
I'm trying to figure out if there is some amp they are comparing it to, or if it is something entirely new tone and circuit-wise.
The G12-65 choice makes me wonder about Dumble-esque tonal aspirations, but the faceplate doesn't give away those sorts of attempts.
Bruno has designed amps for Paisley, so I wonder also if it is somehow related to the Rocket with 6V6s.
Maybe it is not even related to these designs... anyone know?
I feel the need to categorize every amp I see...

Re: Bruno designed Voxes- what are they?
Sounds like marketing BS to me.
Could be 6V6 related, but the EL84/6BQ5 is supposed to have an American sound or British sound depending on who you listen to.

Re: Bruno designed Voxes- what are they?
How many times can they say Tony or Tony Bruno in one advertisement
Re: Bruno designed Voxes- what are they?
Venturing a wild guess (since I've never heard one) based on Tony's Fender and Dumble circuits:
Vintage American voicing = AB763
4 6V6 at 35 watts = Cathode bias
Macho switch = PAB or other tone stack lift
Bass boost = Rock/Jazz switch or switchable preamp cathodes

Bruno designed the Sovtek Mig 50 or 60 i don't remember off the top of my head. The 50 was very fender bassman the 60 was actually a great rock amp.

More than a few people heard these at NAMM, and came away not blown away...

I owned a Mig 50, stupidly traded it for god knows what. it was a real ballsy amp, lots of bass, and had punchy top end like a bassman, I alway thought it was a marshall clone, but the marshalls where bassman clones anyway, so I guess it's saying the same thing. had a pair of 5881 power tubes...I used to love cranking it and watching the blue glow dance around....selloutrr wrote:Bruno designed the Sovtek Mig 50 or 60 i don't remember off the top of my head. Bruno designed the Mig 50 (Mig50 midget?)
Ed Pennypacker designed the Mig 60 and Mig 100 series. ( 100, 100u, 100h)
The Mig50 was bassman meets marshall plexi
The Mig60 was modern more higain then marshall
The Mig100 was a poor mans JCM800 with a better build quality.
Attached are the schematics.

Re: Bruno designed Voxes- what are they?
One iteration of the recently discontinued AC15... I can't claim to be able to keep track of them all and count on Vox to make a whole bunch of dissimilar amps and call them AC15s...
Anyway, it was like a really shrill rip of Fender's AB763 circuit. AB763 with EL84s. I only need to listen to it for about a minute to figure out why Fender never built that circuit with EL84s.
Bruno's thing has got to be an improvement.
Show me a Dave Allen designed Vox. Then I'll be impressed...

I believe in this and it's tested by research...

I would LOVE to try one of these! I have played over 100 Bruno amps, and there was only ONE that I did not fall in love with. His amps are always so musical sounding. The notes blend together perfectly. Really cool to hear about this. Lots of great builders out there, so Bruno should feel proud they choose him for the second time.bcmatt wrote:I see Vox is trying something new with Tony Bruno's help:

Re: Bruno designed Voxes- what are they?
no wonder they sound american, the TB18 is basically a clean Dumble, digital reverb and SS loop, the 35 is basically a Blackface reverb with 4x6V6s cathode bias.
