@JackG: yes, just right click on the exe, properties and find compatibility mode for XP. Microsoft screwed up something with XML in vista, so it's not backwards compatible

@cobalt: yes, runs on any machine that can run java 1.6 or newer

@Ian444: do you get any error? what are you trying to do and can you post the application log (can be found in log folder)

@selloutrr: just overwrite the old version and you should see tube sockets under Tubes tab.

I need further clarification on some issues:

Can't save - did you try File/Save? :) I guess you did but had to ask
Can't import template files from the library - I don't follow.
Component orientation - it would be nice to be able to flip polarity. Do you mean capacitors? When you create them, first click is for positive, second for negative leg. If you want to flip the polarity you can just drag control points around.

I'll add the other point to my to-do list.

Cheers

Yes I tried the usual file/save and save as. Here's a couple logs, renamed .txt so I can post them. No error, but I had the tip of the mouse turn into a timer as if the PC was trying to do something that never happened.

Does it hang indefinitely with the busy cursor or finally recovers like nothing happened?
Tnx

It hangs indefinitely. When I go to close the program, it asks me if I want to save it, as if I had not tried to save. If you can fix that, or help me fix it at my end, it will be a great program that will get used a lot :)

There's a java bug they introduced in version 18 that could be related to problems you're having http://bugs.sun.com/view_bug.do?bug_id=6880336
Could you please try to install 1.6.10 version? You don't need to uninstall the newer one, they can both co-exist :)
It can be found here http://www.oldapps.com/java.php?old_java=31#download

I DL'd the earlier Java version and installed it. From the log I get:
19:06:17,156 DEBUG [main] Presenter - Java version: 1.6.0_18-b07 by Sun Microsystems Inc.
How do I make DIYLC choose the earlier Java version?

Edit: answer is remove version 18 :) Save now works, here we go, thank you :) Fantastic! Awesome!

Control Panel / System / Advanced / Environment Variables
check for JAVA_HOME and if it's there just point it to the old version. Also, there's PATH that should contain java path along with bunch of others. Update just the java part to point to the old one.

If that doesn't help try Control Panel / Java / Java / View and temporary disable the new version.

Thanks and I hope we'll get this sorted out. It's the first complaint from over thousand downloads, it's unlikely to be a coding error.

Cheers

Haven't been active in a while. In the meantime I invested a lot of effort into DIYLC and added a bunch of new features. Check it out when you have a chance

Looks cool! I hadn't updated mine in a while, but I notice that Switchcraft jacks and can caps are new to me (at a glance; I'm sure there's more). Thanks so much for the time/effort you put into this!

I got the new version running on Mac. Had to install legacy Java, but no big deal.

Is there are library, or any list of, complete layouts I can play with?

I see you've got a noval tube socket, but not an octal. Any way to add my own elements? I looked inside the package but didn't see anything obvious, like SVG files.

EDIT: I found you can double click the socket, and then change it to octal. Cool!

EDIT EDIT: OK, I'll just shut up until I RTFM. https://github.com/bancika/diy-layout-c ... /Manual.md

TRIPLE EDIT: I found this, but the link is broken! "To learn how to develop your own components follow this <http://code.google.com/p/diy-layout-cre ... Components> tutorial."

BTW in most cases you don't need to use the legacy java, its just mac being stupid, I've found (jschem for example) that you can just right click on the app, do 'show package contents' and find the actual java compiled file in there somewhere and double click it and it will use the latest java. I doubt this version even uses java 6, and would work with 8.
