Jon Lord was perhaps one of the greatest rock keyboardists, ever.

One of my favourite bands, btw.

Man, that's too bad.

Once you are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, the end is near.

I used to love early Deep Purple, especially Machine Head.

Also the Concerto for Group and Orchestra at Albert Hall in '69 was awesome.

RIP John Lord

Well, look at it this way....
At least he never has to deal with Ritchie Blackmore again.

Purple was epic. Jon Lord was massive.
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

Next to the CD player in my shop is a short stack of CDs that I listen to over and over again. One of them is Deep Purple's self titled 3rd album that has lots of good Jon Lord stuff on it. Here's a track from it : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdjkI0GO9es

I suppose it's because I like a lot of the music that he made, but it's also because he seemed like a decent guy to me that his passing makes me a bit sad.

RIP Jon

Yes RIP Jon, he truly was a defining force in that time period of music.

Back in high school we used to listen to Machine head - permanently "fixed" in the 8-track player... Yeah, you young guys can look up what an 8 track player is....

Here is a great version of Lazy, many years later w/ Steve Morse.

Some of my earliest appreciation for music was spawned by Deep Purple. Machine head was a masterpiece. Jon will be sorely missed.

Jon Lord made his Hammond sound much more rock and roll by amplifying it with a Marshall. (Plexi then a JMC 800, I think)

I dabble with the Hammond organ, and Mr. Lord is a big reason. Listen to Hush when you have a chance, still sounds monstrous! L.A Forum '68 ? Cream & Deep Purple ,

Yup, Jon Lord's keyboard sound in Deep Purple was awesome. I too had an 8-track player with Machine Head in it a lot of the time. I had to stick a matchbook under the tape cartridge to get mine to track properly.

Ditto on the Jon Lord keys. Machine Head and LZ II were the first two albums I bought (8-track) in 7th grade. I went on to purchase them both in LP and then CD.
