Help me choose a body for this old neck.
Funny story about this neck. Back when I was a kid, I went to see Black Oak Arkansas and for their encore, they came out and played, and at the end the two guitarists actually swung their guitars by the neck into each others guitar.
My dad was program director at the local radio station, and they gave the smashed remains to the station, and my dad brought one home to me.
Now they didn't smash their real guitars, they were copies. This came from a copy of an ES-335. The body was unsalvageable, but it was a bolt-on neck, which was still in good shape. They had spray painted flat black paint over whatever label was on it, and when I tried to remove the black paint, it took off everything. I had my mother paint the OM symbol on the bare wood.
I assume it was a Japanese copy of an ES-335, and the neck is actually quite good.
Anyway, going through stuff I came across this neck and have decided to give it new life. The bolt pattern and heel is the same as a Fender strat.
I really want a guitar with P-90's. What body would you mate with this?

4 bolt strat compatible:
http://www.warmoth.com/Guitar/Bodies/DC1/DC1carved.aspx a bit pricey
http://www.warmoth.com/Guitar/Bodies/Ra ... odies.aspx more reasonable
http://www.warmoth.com/Guitar/Bodies/Vi ... thorn.aspx mid-priced -- this is the one that will look "right" with P90's.

Probably going to make the body myself. I have a big chunk of mahogany taunting me in the garage.
Phil, the pricey one gives me an idea. The drummer Tommy Aldridge went on to play with Pat Travers after Black Oak. A double cutaway Les Paul Jr style might be the ticket.

I have a friend that made a carved top es-335 that was awesome. Not sure I have the skills for that.backpack wrote:cut your own lucile or a dc jr.

Did you figure out the scale length?
Fender = 25.5
Gibson = 24.75ish
So the measurement from the nut to the 12th fret will tell the story.
Half of the scale length.

You need a Megazone II.
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

Yeah, strangely enough, it's actually 25.5 like a Fender.Structo wrote:Did you figure out the scale length?

Have you got the tools and skills to cut and drill the neck pocket? That's the one thing I'd be afraid it would come out sloppy or tight, not just right. There's the angle, too.LeftyStrat wrote:Probably going to make the body myself. I have a big chunk of mahogany taunting me in the garage.

I have the tools. As far as skills, I would only consider doing the pocket Fender-style, where there is no angle.Phil_S wrote: Have you got the tools and skills to cut and drill the neck pocket? The wood was given to me, so if I screw it up, oh well.

You are being steared in the wrong direction.
Any of these bodies will fit and the pocket will adapt to fit your neck.
Just pick the color/shape you prefer. You can even mix and match'em if you want. I like the one in heels.
