OK, well, that was a kick. Had never heard of him, so as the video starts, he's just some (good) nerdy looking guitar player in glasses. Then by the time he starts making his guitar say "DO WOP" I had to look him up on the wikipedia. NOW I see what we're dealing with, here. Full metal guitar master. Holy poo. Ten minute epic.

Thanks for that!

More Devin:

He belongs in Danny Elfman's circle of hell. This number would fit nicely in Nightmare Before Christmas!

Seriously, he's making me shit my pants:

I'd love to see the charts for his songs: measures 1-16: Melt faces. measures 17-32: Seriously, melt some fucking faces! Harder!

So glad to introduce you Xitan! Yes, his previous band was Strapping Young Lad, and they are incredibly heavy. His more recent stuff (Devin Townsend Project, or, DTP) has more of a "clean" twist, even his softer/mellow stuff is always "wired for metal", in his words.

Off SYL's final album, is a song called Almost Again, and it gives me chills! Sure is purty. :)

While we're up in Canada, have you met Big Wreck?

A) I am happy Michael can still sing like that.

B) Some famous guitarists get a signature guitar. Joe gets one every time he joins a new band.

C) Chad. FTW.

Been listening to the Langhorns a lot largely from their 'Langhorns' and 'Club Gabardino' albums

awesome stuff (considering it is from the late 1990s)

Not right now but last night I saw on the tube "Great Performances" with Boz Scaggs, Michael McDonald, and Donald Fagen. So I went on a U-tube tour of Steely Dan. I'm just never quite prepared for how good those guys were. Fagen's voice is weird but incredibly interesting and diverse. "Kid Charlemagne" is my pick for the night from Fagen et al. Those are some amazing lyrics. If you youngsters whose main deal has been Bayonce and Miley want to hear some music tune in here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCwwzlcsBvI

While the music played you worked by candlelight
Those San Francisco nights
You were the best in town
Just by chance you crossed the diamond with the pearl
You turned it on the world
That's when you turned the world around
Did you feel like Jesus
Did you realize
That you were a champion in their eyes

On the hill the stuff was laced with kerosene
But yours was kitchen clean
Everyone stopped to stare at your technicolor motor home
Every A-Frame had your number on the wall
You must have had it all
You'd go to L.A. on a dare
And you'd go it alone
Could you live forever
Could you see the day
Could you feel your whole world fall apart and fade away
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/s/steely+d... ]
CHORUS:
Get along, get along Kid Charlemagne
Get along Kid Charlemagne

Now your patrons have all left you in the red
Your low rent friends are dead
This life can be very strange
All those dayglow freaks who used to paint the face
They've joined the human race
Some things will never change
Son you were mistaken
You are obsolete
Look at all the white men on the street

CHORUS

Clean this mess up else we'll all end up in jail
Those test tubes and the scale
Just get them all out of here
Is there gas in the car
Yes, there's gas in the car
I think the people down the hall
Know who you are

Careful what you carry
'Cause the man is wise
You are still an outlaw in their eyes

CHORUS

"Lowdown" tops up the list for Boz.

YMMV

Dan

Seek immediate medical attention if you suddenly go either deaf or blind.

Interesting song selection. I just learned that tune, mainly because I couldn't get it out of my head... "Is there gas in the car? Yes there's gas in the car.." :D So offhand, such a cool story. Takes me back a few decades.
