You may think there is room for improvement, but capturing it in the moment, really, it is a fine cover of a difficult tune.

I think that intro and solo are Larry Carlton at that point. Opening chord is a G7#9 that leads into a great opening solo, the timing is awesome....

Mr. 335 indeed!
In theory, theory is the same as practice. In practice it's different.

We've been doing this Steely Dan thing with these talented but brutal taskmaster/slave drivers Fagen and Becker. Here's the diametrical opposite of Steely Dan

I'm about 25 minutes into "Classic Albums" documentary on "The Band" albums. Wow, what a contrast in styles. There couldn't be more difference I think between techniques in the studio than these two.

So what am I listening to now? "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" I've actually come to tears during that one. I have for years. "You can't raise the Cain back up when he's in defeat" It really speaks loudly to a sensitive place in our collective American heart . The guys really set out to find a narrow sad voice without political whining. Amazing song.

Take a look here at the making of the that and other songs:

Man, around 25:00 where Garth is playing, wow! What an amazing artist. The whole band is great but that part just blew me away. It makes me wish I had paid more attention and got more serious about playing, both keys and guitar. I'm just glad there are guys like that around.

Thanks for posting this.

edit: best hour and fifteen I've spent for some time. Thanks again.

Youtube sometimes leads you to a real gem. Try this:

Outtakes from Monterrey Pop 1967 "bonus tracks."
If you don't check anything else, catch Mike Bloomfield really take off (Electric Flag). Much of it is good or even great. Some of it is just that because of it's nostalgic feel-good value.

I would normally ask why there's a clown playing guitar...but not in this case. Makes perfect sense.

That was fun.
