As Cold As Can Be is a killer song and the guitar tone is great. Hollowbody into a cranked Marshall is how to get the job done, and done right.Structo wrote:Cardiacs!
I had no idea that Tim Smith of the Cardiacs was ill.

Youtube has multiple shows (mostly audio only) of Dead & Co with John Mayer tearing it up on a Jerrified guitar (both the instrument itself and the player.) I can't peel myself away. The band hasn't sounded like this since 1995, when, well, you know. Somehow, a breath of new life. There is the professionally filmed MSG show. Later shows are showing even more groove as John and Oteil seem to be settling in nicely. They've hauled out some rarely played classics and a few that some thought should never be performed again. There are some core tunes, but, true to form, no standard set list.
it is clear the audience is reacting favorably. Negative comments left by a few crusty people should be discounted as those people are wishing for something they can't ever have.
If you like the Dead, this is required listening, AFAIC. What's even better is that you don't have to go anywhere to take it in. If you don't like the Dead, by all means, feel free to pass.

I got to say, if you like the Black Keys, their latest album Turn Blue is really growing on me.
I think it is his best work so far.
Black Keys, Turn Blue
for you searchers.
I always liked albums that seemed to have a theme, like different movements in classical music.
This album seems to do that.
The first song has this huge Fuzz tone lead that then fades to a great melody.
Remember when albums had a theme or flow from song to song.
I kind'f miss that.
I have Turn Blue on a USB stick in my car and it is usually my first choice when traveling long miles.
Anyway I give it a 10 rating.

After seeing RWood's post, I pulled out Wishbone Four, and was magically transported back to 1973. They were an unusual band, with Acoustic brand solid-state amps, and tons of compression live.
But they sounded so smooth
I enjoyed that so much, I pulled out another fave from that era - Mahogany Rush - Child of the Novelty:
