Woman tone
...as in female vocalists. Some of my fav's: Billie Holiday, Aretha Franklin, Mavis Staples, Joni Mitchell, Nora Jones. I love Janis Joplin's singing, but for a different reason. Dianna Krall tone, not so much- compare her version of "Walk On By" with Dionne Warwick's.
Re: Woman tone
I gotta say Aretha Franklin, Sarah Brightman, Ann & Nancy Wilson, and Eartha Kitt have always done it for me.

Re: Woman tone
Here's another in a different vein, Bonnie Raitt, along with Nora Jones, and there is amp tone content that will interest some TAG'ers here too. Kind of brings home the idea of "voicing" an amp, eh? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzDUi_L6 ... MIGq7PTBGg
