It's time to praise your seamstress

Post by xtian »

It's time to praise your seamstress (or...seamster?) for a job well done. Because, like most skills, it's NOT as easy as it looks!

I bought some marine vinyl and made a cover for my combo. Although I was able to thread and configure the machine, I was in over my head as far as assembly, corners, and common good fit.

Anyway, you can't be a true Renaissance person without blundering around a bit.

Make it inside out. Add one inch to the width, height, and depth for seams then sew it together and turn it back outside out.

I have been thinking about making about a half dozen covers of my own. There are some
sources online where you can buy pre-made covers. But the price bothers my miserly
sensibilities.

As I strongly suspect actually gathering the material and tools to do this will probably cost eight times more money than the pre-made ones. But that is par for the course in this
hobby :). The main point is figuring out how to do it yourself.

Any more details/tips on this process would be greatly appreciated.

Your cover looks great compared to my primitive effort.

I overlapped the corners and installed three grommets to hold the folds for each corner. It was quick and easy. And it works, but isn't very elegant looking.

Second attempt, much better, far from perfect. Made a cover for my Rocket Dog. But I can make these for other people now and not hang my head in shame!
