Favorite rock bass lines.

Post by LeftyStrat »

Guitar ain't shit without a great bass line. I'm limiting this to rock. Certainly Stanley Clarke and Victor Wooten are high on my charts. Here are my rock favorites:

I might have been swayed by the dancers on this one:

The Flea:

John Paul Jones. The bass line makes this song and allows Page to paint some wonderful textures. Besides it has Tolkien references!:

Chris Squire:

When you hear a great song, and realize no one could have possibly come up with a better bass part:

Top of my list, John Entwistle had balls on his balls.

I'm leaving out a lot fill me in TAG.

"Crown of Creation" Jefferson Airplane. Jack Casady doesn't just pley, he PROPELS the band. Dial you ears into that one, dear friends! Lots more examples from JC with JA & Hot Tuna.

Jack has been mentioned as an influence by some other major league bassists for instance Stanley Clarke and Anthony Jackson.

Must also mention Phil Lesh. Often playing unusual bass voicings - hey he was a composer before joining the Grateful Dead - the "usual thing" just won't do. If I had to pick one song out of so many, "Cumberland Blues" kicking off Europe 72.

Good thread you started Lefty!

It could use a little more bass (and there are dancers as well!)
